Hair transplantation consists of removing hair from the crown and to transplant them in the bald areas. In 1959, an American surgeon Doctor Norman Orentreich pioneered the hair transplantation's technique in the United States.
At that time, round grafts containing 10 to 20 hairs each were inserted in the bald area. This technique resulted in a "clumped" or "bristle brush" appearance which was not esthetical. Moreover it was painful and some scars could be seen on the back of the head.

During the 70's & 80's, minigrafts (smaller clumps containing 5-8 hairs) were an improvement, but only served to generate smaller "plugs". The results however were not satisfying since these minigrafts resulted in a "Barbie Doll" appearance.

In the 80's and 90's an important turning point has been made in the field of transplantation. It was the time of micro grafts with clumps of 3 to 4 hairs. Very recently ultra micrografting or follicle-unit micrografting results in a very natural look. The improvements done in the field of quality have lead to a satisfying aesthetical result. To reach this excellent result quickly, a bigger amount of grafts has to be transplanted in one single session. It is all done today thanks to the new logistical and technological innovations developed by A Best Hair Center.
